Intertek Helps Car Makers Comply With VOC Standards

Intertek has achieved an extension of its ISO 17025 accreditation to cover laboratory testing for volatile organic compounds to support automotive industry safety and innovation.

A growing demand for safe, innovative and lightweight materials in the automotive industry brings growing interest for screening and measuring VOCs emitted from automotive plastic components, Intertek says. To be able to prove conformity to quality and safety standards, car manufacturers request accurate and robust testing conducted by an ISO 17025 accredited and competent laboratory to ensure compliance.

ISO 17025 is the industry standard that verifies a laboratory’s competence.

Intertek’s polymer testing laboratory in Geleen, Netherlands, has held a broad range of tests under this accreditation for many years. By extending this accreditation to cover VOC testing as well as some new mechanical tests, Intertek says it is well positioned to meet the demands of the global automotive industry. Automotive VOC testing is also offered through at Intertek’s ISO 17025 accredited US facilities in San Antonio, Texas, Grand Rapids, Michigan and Shanghai, China.

Intertek has been providing safety-testing services to the automotive industry for a number of years. These cover automotive interiors, electric/hybrid vehicles, charging components, automotive telematics, and aftermarket components.
